About this site
My name is Keith Martin and I am the Branch Librarian in Westport, Co Mayo, Ireland.  I am currently researching the history of the WWII Tribal Class Destroyer HMS Mashona.  HMS Mashona was sunk just off our coast in May 1941 and two of her crew are buried here in Mayo.

There is considerable local interest in the story of these men and their ship.  To this end I am compiling a history for this website, for an exhibit at the library and as a book to permanently secure a record of the ship's history.

If you remember the Mashona please get in touch.  Perhaps you served in HMS Tartar, HMS Sherwood or HMCS St Clair maybe you saw her sinking or rescued her crew?  If you were on HOOD or the other Battleships of the Home Fleet you might remember this destroyer.  Do you have information or pictures of the ship or her crew?  Please get in touch.

If you can help please do contact me.

Thank you.

Keith Martin
